German police have sought to mitigate earlier reports that there is an increased risk of terrorist attacks in public areas during Saturday's UEFA Champions League final.

"Germany has stood in the cross hairs of international terrorism for a long time. At this time, there are no indications of plans to attack or targets within Germany," said German Interior Minister Hans-Peter Friedrich in a statement.

Earlier Saturday German and world media published reports, saying that Friedrich had taken up an unusual high levels of precautionary measures for Saturday night, when many football fans will assemble.

According to Spiegel, the head of Germany's federal police agency (BKA), J?rg Ziercke had earlier informed the law enforcement that "that there are indications of a possible terror attack in Germany."

This year's Champions League final, to be held in London, is the first in history which clashes two German teams - Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund.

Tens of thousands of Germans are expected to assemble in so called "fan areas" to view the game and socialize.
