Political actors are trying to reap dividends from flaring the ongoing wiretapping scandal in Bulgaria, while institutions are resolutely doing their job, stated Bulgaria's caretaker PM Marin Raykov.

Tuesday Raykov gave a joint press conference with Interior Minister Gen Petya Parvanova and Chief Prosecutor Sotir Tsatsarov, which is his first comment since last Friday a highly controversial conversation recording leaked involving former PM Boyko Borisov, ex Agriculture Minister Miroslav Naydenov and now resigned Sofia City Prosecutor Nikolay Kokinov.

In the conversation, the three discuss ways to thwart ongoing proceedings against Naydenov, who has been charged with abuse of power.

Kokinov is also heard revealing to his interlocutors yet unpublished details of an investigation that found massive violations in the use of special surveillance devices under Borisov and his Minister of Interior Tsvetan Tsvetanov.

"Where some see a scandal, I see working institutions and a will to implement the rule of law," commented PM Raykov.

"The executive and judiciary are independent, but they are working together and are not hiding away from society's problems," added he.

The PM stated that the Ministry of Interior and the prosecution have his full support in the process.

"Citizens expected solutions from the political class, not scandals. The events of the past 10 days provoke my deep worry," said Raykov.

According to the PM, there is a full resolve on the part of all authorities to carry out an objective investigation.

Raykov also said that together with relevant stakeholders the cabinet will work towards legislative amendments to rectify the police use of special surveillance devices.
