Interpol-wanted Bulgarian mobsters Plamen Galev and Angel Hristov have been given the right to cast a ballot in the upcoming elections in the country.

The notorious pair, known as "the Galevi brothers", feature in the electoral rolls in the village of Resilovo, near the town they had made into a stronghold of their own – Dupnitsa.

The mafia duo will hardly head to the polls as they are being hunted down by the Bulgarian authorities, together with the cooperation of FBI.

The Galevi brothers, well known to be top mafia lords, failed MP wannabes and benefactors of Dupnitsa, were sentenced by Bulgaria's Supreme Court to serve five years in jail at the beginning of May last year on racketeering charges.

A few days later the two underground bosses vanished and were declared wanted by the local authorities and Interpol.

Meanwhile the two crime bosses were charged with money laundering, worth BGN 35. 5. M.

Even before the court trial it was a public secret that the Galevi brothers are mafia bosses who hold the citizens of Dupnitsa on a leash as their jobs and prosperity depend on the two burly former policemen with shady background and businesses.

They have managed to capitalize on the weakness of the state and the local authorities, merging with them and making out of Dupnitsa a stronghold of their own, called Galevgrad.
