An abandoned bag put Moscow's Domodedovo airport on a brief alert on Sunday, as initial reports claimed that it contained TNT.

Local polica authorities have denied reports that an explosive device had been found in a bus station near the airport.

"An abandoned bag was found, but no substances threatening the safety of citizens were discovered," transportation police have told Interfax, as cited by The Moscow Times.

The Itar-Tass news agency had earlier reported that Moscow region police had  cordoned off part of the bus station after finding several blocks of TNT.

A deadly bombing killed a total of 37 people at the Russian Domodedovo Airport back in January 2011.
