"Today there is much talk about the growing inequality over the last 30 years. But what is more alarming in my opinion is the decline in social mobility. Today, in Western Europe societies, a child from a poor family is much less likely to become part of the middle class than 30 years ago. This is one of the reasons why young people do not just look for jobs and higher incomes, but also social recognition outside their home countries."
