Bulgaria and Vietnam have the potential to boost their bilateral economic cooperation, Bulgarian Foreign Minister Nikolay Mladenov.

Mladenov met with Vietnam's Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan on Monday.

Nguyen also believes that there is untapped potential for the development of the two countries' relations in the future.

"You should perceive Vietnam as a gateway to Asia," he said, as cited by the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry.

Mladenov pointed out that Europe would only benefit if it opens up its economy as much as possible to the rest of the world.

The officials discussed Bulgaria and Vietnam's future enhanced cooperation in the fields of economy, trade and education.

Vietnam's Deputy PM is on a visit to the Balkan country on the invitation of Bulgarian Finance Minister Simeon Djankov.
