The heat wave is so severe that the National Meteorology and Hydrology Institute declared a red code of alert for six Bulgarian districts for August 6 – Montana, Vratsa, Lovech, Pleven, Veliko Tarnovo, and Ruse. All the other 22 districts have an orange code.

This is the second time in 2012 when parts of Bulgaria have a red code alert over heat after mid July when the mercury reached 43 degrees.
