The wildfire that erupted in southern Bulgaria in the area between the Black Sea towns of Pomorie and Nessebar has been extinguished.
The information was reported Friday morning by the Mayor of Pomorie, Ivan Aleksiev.
Some outbreaks are still festering and for this reason several teams will remain on duty Friday and overnight to monitor the situation.
The flames engulfed close to 10 000 decares of pine and deciduous forests and dry grass and bushes.
Over 150 people, firemen, forest rangers, military servicemen, and volunteers took part in the extinguishing effort. Two MI-17 helicopters from the Krumovo Air Base joined in as well.
The emergency situation, which was declared for the municipalities of Pomorie and Nessebar and the beach resorts there, remains in place and is expected to be lifted later Friday.
The large number of blazes in Bulgaria is attributed to the summer heat and draught, and to human recklessness.
