Part of Bulgaria's Afghanistan Contingent Returns Home

232 military service persons from Bulgaria's 22nd military force sent to Afghanistan have returned at Sofia Airport Saturday.

They were greeted to their homeland l by commander of Bulgarian forces in Afghanistan Gen. Atanas Samandov, and the commander of the Special Forces Brigade Gen. Plamen Lilov.

"It is an honour to me to wecome you on Bulgarian soil and to express my pride in your responsible service in the ISAF forces," stated Gen. Samandov.

The unit includes 162 troopers who guarded Kabul Airport, as well as military police, staff officers and medical teams.

An official welcoming ceremony is to be held in Plovdiv next Wednesday.

Bulgaria has announced a phased withdrawal from Afghanistan by the end of 2014, in coordination with NATO.
