Bulgaria: 5.8 Degree Earthquake Hits New Zealand

A strong earthquake was registered Saturday in the ocean off the eastern coast of New Zealand, with no reports of casualties and destruction.

According to data by the US Geological Survey, the earthquake was of magnitude 5.8 on the Richter scale with an epicenter off the east coast of the North Island at a depth of 20 km.

In February 2011, a 6.3 degree earthquake near the southern city of Christchurch caused massive destruction and the deaths of 181 people.
