Bulgaria's Defense Minister Anyu Angelov has urged the countries from the Southeast European Cooperation Process to deepen further their cooperation within NATO's "Smart Defense" program.

Angelov spoke at a ministerial of the SEECP in Belgrade, Serbia, on Thursday, as cited by the press service of the Bulgarian Defense Ministry.

"These initiatives provide us with great opportunities for regional cooperation," Angelov told his SEECP colleagues, stressing that Bulgaria is always working on NATO projects on Crisis Management Center and on "Female Leaders in Security and Defense".

He has also confirmed Bulgaria's offer to host permanently the headquarters of the Southeast European multinational brigade (SEEBRIG) as an important contribution by Bulgaria with respect to international missions and crisis management.

Angelov has welcomed Serbia's initiative for raising the issue of destroying the stored supplies of small arms and light weaponry in the region, and has emphasized the importance of the SEECP as a regional forum.

The SEECP ministerial adopted a declaration supporting the "open-door policy" of NATO and the EU with respect to the integration of the countries in Southeast Europe.

As part of the SEECP forum, Bulgaria's Defense Minister had bilateral talks with his counterparts from Serbia – Dragan Sutanovac, Turkey – Ismet Yilmaz, and Montenegro – Milica Pejanovic-Durisic.
