Bulgaria's Health Minister Desisislava Atanasova has stated she hopes 3000 in vitro babies will be born by the end of 2012.
Approximately 12 000 women have made us of the country's Assisted Reproduction Fund since it was launched in 2009, Atanasova has pointed out, adding that she hoped their number to reach 15 000 by the end of 2012.
Atanasova admitted that many women apply for the fund, but do not receive financing due to delays. She revealed that the deadline for ordering the financing of in vitro reproduction applicants will be increased from six months to one year.
The Bulgarian Health Ministry has signed contracts with approximately 22 hospitals for in vitro fertilization, Atanasova said, as cited by the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency.
