A project for a zero carbon village, which also generates renewable energy and is a center of scientific and research work, was presented Tuesday by the municipal and district administration in the northeastern city of Ruse and the Institute for Agriculture and Seed Production "Obrazcov Chiflik".

Under the project, the village will be built on a territory of 200 decares owned by "Obrazcov Chiflik" and will include several modules.

The residential module will consist of buildings using passive energy.

The production module will generate electricity through solar photovoltaics, wind turbines and biomass from nearby farms.

The scientific research center will include laboratories and test areas of the University of Ruse that will work on issues of energy efficiency.

The project also envisages the construction of a complex for the certification of agricultural products as organic.

The eco village is expected to become a tourist attraction.

Funding options include EU programs and public-private partnership.
