In the fourth quarter of 2011, 844.3 thousand Bulgarian residents1 travelled to the country or abroad, preliminary data of the National Statistics Institute (NSI), released Thursday, shows.
The total number of persons who travelled with private purpose decreased by 9.2% in comparison with the same quarter of 2010, as a reduction was observed in the number of Bulgarians who took local trips – down 6.2%, as well as in the number of persons who travelled abroad - by 32.2 %.
According to people 15 years of age and older, the main purposes for trips in the country or abroad were holiday (35%), recreation (44%) and visits of relatives.
The relative share of people who travelled with the purpose to visit relatives in the country was 45.2% and of those, who travelled abroad with same purpose was 32.6%.
Individuals ages 25-44 were the highest part (46.7%) of the total number of residents, who travelled in the fourth quarter of 2011.
The highest share was the one of Bulgarians in the 25-34 age group, travelling with private purposes - 26.7%, while those who travelled with professional purpose were in the 35 - 44 age group - 38.5%.
In the structure of tourist trips, expenditures for transport - in domestic trips - 33.6% and in trips abroad - 37.1% - had the highest relative share.
In the fourth quarter of 2011, a person 15 years of age or older spent on the average BGN 158 for their private domestic trips and BGN 606.4 trips abroad. At the same time, a person15 years of age or older spent on the average BGN 207.2 for their professional domestic trips and BGN 835.2 BGN for professional trips abroad.
