Bulgaria: Bulgarian Cartoon Artist Grabs First Prize in Iran

Bulgaria's artist Valentin Georgiev came out as a winner at Iran's traditional Tabriz cartoon fest, whose participants this year were provoked by the austerity times the world is going through, local media reported.

Musa Gumus and Sait Munwr, both from Turkey, ranked second and third respectively.

Artists from 38 countries took part in the 11th edition of the contest this year and their works will be displayed at a future exhibition.

Ross Thomson from Britain, Alexander Dubovsky from Ukraine, Roman Kubec from the Czech Republic, and Mohsen Asadi and Abolfazl Bahrami from Iran were also among those who were honored.

In the cartoon portrait section, the first prize went to Farhad Rahim Qaramaleki from Iran and the second went to Jairo Linares from Colombia. Esmaeil Bidardel from Iran ranked third.
