The grandson of notorious Bulgarian Roma boss Tsar KiroKiril Rashkov Jr. , who became the subject of a nationwide search for issuing death threats, has turned himself in to the police.

Charges are yet to be officially brought against him, according to Asenovgrad Regional Prosecutor Kaloyan Dimitrov.

Earlier Monday, the Asenovgrad Regional Prosecutor's Office opened pre-trial proceedings against Tsar Kiro's grandson over the threats he is said to have issued on September 23, the day when 19-year-old Angel Petrov got run over by a minibus driven by an alleged associate of the controversial Roma clan leader.

Dimitrov specified that the threats had been voiced prior to Angel Petrov's death.

A nationwide warrant was issued for Kiril Rashkov Jr. on Sunday after Veselin Hristov, Angel Petrov's maternal uncle, filed a complaint about the murder threats.

The complaints filed by Hristov and his girlfriend, Ivanka Petrova, who had been appointed a legal guardian for Angel Petrov, were used to arrest Tsar Kiro and press charges against him, the Bulgarian National Radio reported Monday.

On the fatal night of the murder, September 23, Hristov made two calls to the 112 emergency hotline – the first one was to report the threats; the second – that there were clashes in front of Rashkov's mansion in Katunitsa, which became a crime scene minutes later when Petrov got run over.

Hristov says he filed the claim a week after the murder because when he called the criminal police chief in Asenovgrad to ask him if Rashkov Jr. would be charged, he was told that there wasn't an official complaint about him.

The September 23 incident in the southern Bulgarian village of Katunitsa triggered waves of protests across the country which resulted in over 350 arrests.

Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov called an emergency meeting of the Consultative National Security Council, KSNS, on Saturday over escalating ethnic tensions in the country.

The KSNS session ended with vows for launching investigations of all Bulgarians believed to posses criminal wealth.

In the meantime, Bulgarian authorities were reported to have frozen Kiril Rashkov's assets and property while he was being investigated on tax evasion charges.
