Weather in Bulgaria: Rainy Start to the Week
The new week in Bulgaria will commence with overcast skies, particularly pronounced in the western regions where rain, sporadic showers, and thunderstorms may occur
Weathermen have warned the end of the usually hot September bliss in Bulgaria is coming to an end as spells of cooler air are set to pass through the country on Tuesday, bringing down temperatures by more than 10 degrees C.
Tuesday night is expected to mark the change in the weather, with cool gusts of wind, coming from the West and North-West, where the change will be most palpable.
Highs are expected not to exceed 18-20 C high, a dramatic change in comparison with this weekend's sweltering heat. The middle of the week will also bring the first snow falls high up in the mountains.
Temperatures will rise for a short while during the holidays on September 22-25 only to fall again during the last days of the month.
There will be spells of rain across the country.
Weathermen have warned that this year in Bulgaria the winter is expected to set in earlier than usual - probably in November. But it but will also go away earlier than usual - at the end of January or in February.
This has been attributed to the increased intensity of La Nina over the Pacific south of the equator near Peru, affecting the global climate.
La Nina is a "sister" of El Nino and is characterized by the lower temperature of the ocean water (in the case of El Nino it is the opposite).
Experts have found that over the last 10-15 years thanks to the impact of La Nina the amount of rains has decreased, but average temperatures have also fallen. Detailed observations show that in Eastern Europe the winter now comes and goes more quickly.
