Bulgaria must demand from the new government of Libya a firm admission that the trial against the Bulgarian medics has been a fake one.

The statement was made Monday by the presidential candidate of the left-wing Bulgarian Socialist Party, BSP, Member of the European Parliament and ex Foreign Affairs Minister, Ivaylo Kalfin, who insists the cabinet must seek from the Libyan rebel Transitional National Council, NTC, a clearly stated admission the case had been carried out under political pressure and then ask for a new trial where the medics, who spent years in Libyan prison on charges they have purposely infected local children with AIDS and were sentenced to death, are pronounced not-guilty.

Kalfin voiced strong doubts the troubled Libyan dictator, Muammar Gaddafi, will be tried by the International Court of Justice at The Hague because such trial would not be among the Court's authority.

He said that the idea to ask Libya for compensations and to launch again claims about the Libyan debt to Bulgaria was populist and imaginary, because it refers to obligations Libya never admitted to and the new power would not admit either.

The presidential hopeful comments came in connection of statements of Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, Bulgaria will ask Libya for damages in the medics' case.

"What is real to demand immediately is a political admission and apology for the tragedy of the Bulgaria medics. They were sentenced to death and spend 8 years in Libyan jail before they were released due to international pressure," Kalfin stressed.
