One of the two parties in Bulgaria's right-wing Blue Coalition, Democrats for Strong Bulgaria, DSB, issued Saturday an ultimatum to their partner, Union of Democratic Forces, UDF.
"If by the end of the day we do not reach an agreement between the two parties for the mayoral elections in Sofia, we will submit registration documents with the Regional Election Commission (REC) on our own in order to not leave Sofia residents without an authentic right-wing candidate," the DSB Election Headquarters Head, Veselin Metodiev, is quoted saying.
According to the DSB declaration regarding the agreement, signed Thursday by UDF and the United Democratic Forces (ODS) for endorsement of the right-wing presidential nomination of Rumen Hristov, is a replacement of the Blue Coalition with another one.
The negotiations among right-wing fractions are at stalemate for the second week now while Sunday is the deadline to register coalitions for the local elections.
The Chair of DSB in the capital Sofia, Atanas Atanasov, points out he does not at all want a split of the Blue Coalition, but if this happens after all and DSB and UDF register separate ballots in Sofia, he was hoping the capital's residents would back the DSB nomination for mayor, Proshko Proshkov.
Proshkov asked Friday former mayor Stefan Sofiyanski from ODS to withdraw his nomination for another term in office, prompting Sofiyanski to tell the media the right-wing must discuss a joint mayoral nomination, but failing to name the person who must give up on the race.
