Bulgaria: Gaddafi Ready to Step Down if NATO Stops Bombing - Report EPA/BGNES

Embattled Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi is ready to step down if NATO discontinues its air strikes on Libya, according to former Croatian President Stipe Mesic.

Mesic has close ties to Gaddafi and has said that the Libyan leader himself had told him his willingness to withdraw.

"Col Gaddafi is ready to completely withdraw from the political life of Libya with a firm commitment to creating a multi-party system, under the condition that NATO air strikes are discontinued," said Mesic in a statement.

The former Croatian President said he received that in a personal voice message last week and has informed the Russian, Chinese and American ambassadors to Croatia about it.
