Minister of Agriculture and Foods Miroslav Naydenov opened Saturday the new hunting season near the city of Yambol in South-Eastern Bulgaria.

More than 130,000 hunters and fishermen across the country are now allowed to go for their game - doves, turtles, coturnices, etc.

The official hunting season starts in the middle of August and lasts until January.

Local rules allow hunters to kill up to 15 quails and up to 10 wood pigeons, doves, collared dove, woodcocks and snipes.

Foreigners, who have come to Bulgaria for individual or group hunting of small game, are allowed to stay from 3 to 7 consecutive days on a particular hunting area. Each group of foreign tourists hunting in Bulgaria must be registered in the farm. The information is then recorded in current protocols.

The use of electrical devices, live birds as decoys, hunting falcons and other raptors, as well as hunting hounds are prohibited means and methods of killing or capture.

The ban is imposed under the Bern Convention on the Conservation of European Wildlife and Natural Habitats.
