Bulgarian Prime Minister Takes Action on 'Mama I Az' Hospital
Acting Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev is poised to address critical issues plaguing children's healthcare in Bulgaria, particularly regarding the "Mama I Az" hospital.
A Bulgarian citizen has been listed in the hospital of the southern city of Blagoevgrad after being, allegedly, tortured and kept without food in neighboring Greece.
The new was reported Wednesday by the news agency BGNES.
Kadir Mehmed, 34, from the village of Golyamo Voda, near the northeastern city of Razgrad, has been transferred to the Bulgarian authorities at the nearby cross-border point with Greece. The police have been notified.
According to unofficial information, reported by Darik radio, the man had been discovered in helpless condition near the Greek town of Drama, and had been sent to a Greek hospital. According to Kadir's muffled explanations, he had been kept in captivity along with three other Bulgarians after they went to Greece to look for work. All four managed to escape with Kadir being the last one.
It remains unclear where the man had been working and who his employer was.
An investigation is pending, with interrogations and checks of the records of Border Police to find out when Kadir had entered Greece.
The doctors in Blagoevgrad say they were stunned by the patient's condition and the weight loss over an apparent starvation – Kadir had lost about 30 kg in 4 months and is currently weighting 45 kg. Medical tests did not establish any other serious ailments while his Bulgarian ID card, issued in the spring, has the picture of a man in great condition.
