A new alley named London 2012 was officially inaugurated in the Bulgarian capital Sofia's North Park exactly one year ahead of the 30th Olympics set to take place in London.

The alley was launched by interim head of the UK mission to Bulgarian Catherine Barber, Bulgaria's Minister of Sports Svilen Neykov, and the President of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee Belcho Goranov.

The new alley is 2012 m long and was inaugurated by a festive run set to mark one year before the July 27, 2011 opening of the 30th summer olympics.

Minister Neykov and ambassador Barber also took part in the run.

At the opening, Neykov expressed the hope that the alley will boost Sofia's citizens practice of going outdoors and exercising.

He also added that he sees the opening of the new alley as a symbolic wish for a good showing of the Bulgarian teams at the upcoming olympics.
