An Ukrainian bus transporting a group of children has crashed on the Burgas-Varna road, along Bulgaria's Black Sea coast.

The crash occurred shortly before 6 pm local time, according to the head of the Varna Police Directorate Dimitar Dimitrov, as cited by Darik Radio.

A total of 5 children and 3 adults were injured. A 35-year-old woman is in a more serious condition, and has been taken to hospital in Varna.

A total of 40 people, including three drivers, traveled in the Ukrainian bus. According to the Bulgarian police, the bus drove out of the lane, and crashing into the roadside ditch.

The causes of the crash – including a suspected technical problem with the bus – are under investigation. The crash led the police to seal off the Burgas-Varna road, and to divert the traffic through an older road nearby.
