Bulgarian police are organizing a massive campaign in capital Sofia to prevent jaywalking and observance of cross-walks on the parts of drivers.

The campaign starts this Monday and will last for a week.

Police officers will be stationed near cross-walks stopping drivers who do not observe them - an endemic practice in Bulgaria and especially Sofia.

They will also keep an eye on reckless pedestrians crossing streets without cross walks or given a red light.

Police are promising to impose all fines related to those misdemeanors.

8 pedestrians are reported to have been killed in Sofia since the start of 2011, with 263 more injured.
