More Arrests in Bulgaria Targeting Vote-Buying Before the April Elections
A specialized police operation targeting vote buying has led to the arrest of three individuals in the town of Byala Slatina, authorities confirmed

Nineteen people have been arrested in the Bulgarian Black Sea capital Varna during a joint operation of the police and the Varna Regional Prosecutor's office.
The news was reported Monday by the Interior Ministry's press center, while Varna Regional Prosecutor, Vladimir Chavdarov, and the Director of the Regional Directorate of the Interior Ministry, Commissar, Dimitar Dimitrov, informed later, during a press conference that two of the detainees are police officers. 9 will be kept behind bars for 24 hours.
One of the arrested policemen has been working as an investigator at the Varna Unit for Combatting Organized Crime, while the other one is from the First Police Precinct in Varna. They are accused of providing police information to the gang.
The group was involved in illegal banking activities through a number of pawn shops in Varna and the nearby town of Provadia. The operation began in February and by March the investigation already led to the two police employees.
The gang was dealing with loansharking, racket, illegal research, tracing and following, and entry of private homes with the help of the two arrested police officers.
The raids of several addresses revealed a huge amount of data from secret police bulletins.
Two well-known Varna individuals are implicated in financing the criminal group's operations – one is the owner of striptease bars in the city, and the other – a Customs Agency officer. Both are among the detainees.
