The ongoing incompetence of Bulgaria's GERB cabinet, combined with its use of power politics, might actually help Bulgarians become more conscious and exert in earnest their democratic rights, according to journalist Svetla Petrova.
Petrova, who until recently led the political talk show Seismograf at bTV, commented for the K2 radio that it is high time Bulgaria turns into a real democratic society, and that ironically the present forceful use of power could create preconditions for that.
She further commented on the state of Bulgarian media, which according to her have started to "just imitate public dialogue," choosing topics distant to those that matter most for the country, and treating the rest according to skewed interests.
Petrova also stressed that there is a group of journalists who stand for principled positions, and that it is vital that group thrives on to help bring about change.
