About BGN 91 000 have been collected so far on the account of the Bulgarian Red Cross in a campaign that was launched on March 15 for solidarity with quake-hit Japan.

On Wednesday, the Chair of the Bulgarian Red Cross, Hristo Grigorov, said that the money does not include the sum collected from text messages on the special number 1255.

In his words, the largest donation from an individual was BGN 10 000 and from a corporation – BGN 50 000.

"The account of the Bulgarian Red Cross has received transactions of BGN 1, BGN 2, BGN 5 and BGN 10, which shows that the whole Bulgarian nation is being sympathetic to Japan," Grigorov said.

The campaign of the Bulgarian Red Cross for collecting money for people affected by the 9.0-magnitude earthquake and tsunami in Japan will continue at least a month more.
