Forces supporting Libyan leader, Muammar Gaddafi are advancing in the east of the country, regaining control over rebel-held strongholds.
The BBC cites local witness reports of fierce fighting Sunday in Libya's eastern town of Brega with dozens of rebel fighters pulling out of the area amid heavy shelling.
"Brega has been cleansed of armed gangs," a military source was quoted on Libyan state television as saying.
"Libyans need help. We are in danger. The entire region is in danger. Libyans are helpless against Gaddafi's weapons. We have the people, but we do not have the means," a local opposition member has stated.
Libyan rebel forces have been losing ground for days, including the key oil port of Ras Lanuf.
