Bulgarian milk producers hope to bust sales of feta cheese and kashkaval in Germany and Spain with the help of EC financing. Photo by BGNES
Bulgaria has launched an advertising campaign in Spain and Germany for its feta cheese and yellow cheese known as kashkaval.
The advertising campaign aims at making the citizens of the two countries acquainted with the Bulgarian products and convincing them to include the cheese and kashkaval in their daily meals.
In April 2010, the European Commission approved the project of the Bulgarian Association of Milk Producers and provided 50% for its financing, which is valued at BGN 6.3 M. Other 30% have come from the Bulgarian state budget and 20% from the private business.
The advertisement campaign, prepared entirely by Bulgarian companies, includes TV commercials, print media advertisement and articles and presentations at fairs and exhibitions over the course of 3 years.
Consortiums of businesses in the food manufacturing industry can apply each year for EC advertisement financing as long as they present a local product and not a particular brand. The approval of the Bulgarian cheese is a first for the country.
The German newspaper Weltexpress has written that the production of Bulgarian cheese started 5000 years ago by the Thracians. At present, it could be bought from Turkish stores in Germany or online.
The newspaper also advices people to mix the Bulgarian cheese with Bulgarian wine.
