TRADE UNIONS DISCUSS RUSSIA'S CLAIMS TO BULGARTABAC WITH BIDDER

Business | August 7, 2002, Wednesday // 00:00

Russia's claims to Bulgaratabac assets and the development of the Russian markets were among the topics discussed between the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria (CITUB) and Tobacco Capital Partners, one of the bidders for a 80% stake in the tobacco monopoly, ranked first in the provisional ranking. Before the meeting CITUB chairman Hristo Zhelyazkov enquired about the fate of the remuneration the holding owes for unpaid salaries and purchased tobacco, following the privatisation. A meeting between CITUB and consortium Rosbulgartabac, ranked fourth in the provisional rankings of the sell-off bids, has been planned later in the day. Demands for bids sweetening procedure and approval of the payroll commitments were expressed at the August 6 meeting of CITUB with Tobacco Holding and Consortium Metatabak, placed first and third in the provisional rankings of the sell-off bids. On the same day the Employers Union in Bulgaria (EUB) issued a declaration, urging local businesses to uphold basic corporate ethics. EUB also urged the government to take a clear stance on the issue.
