Bulgaria has expressed support for the initiative on the European Defense and Security Policy (EDSP) spearheaded by Sweden and Germany for "efforts pooling and resources sharing" by the EU member states.
Bulgarian Defense Minister Anyu Angelov welcomed the initiative during his meeting with his Swedish counterpart Sten Tolgfors in Stockholm on Friday.
Angelov, who met with representatives of military producer Saab on Thursday to discuss their offer of Gripen fighter jets to Bulgaria, has pointed out the role of the Southeast Europe Defense Ministerial process (SEDM), a meeting format of Balkan defense ministers.
The Defense Ministers of Bulgaria and Sweden agreed to deepen the bilateral cooperation, and declared their readiness to draft a 2011 program in that respect. Angelov has thanked Sweden for its back for Bulgaria's EU integration.
Bulgaria's request for detailed information on the Saab Gripen fighter jets was also a matter of the two ministers' talks. The head of the Swedish Defense and Security Export Agency Ulf Hamerstroem has assured Angelov that Sweden will provide all information Bulgaria asked for by March.
