The subscribers of Bulgaria's two largest mobile phones operators Mtel and Globul sent over 11 million text messages on New Year's Eve, according to preliminary estimations by the operators.

Bulgaria's largest mobile phones operator Mtel announced Monday that its SMS traffic amounted to about 6,75 million messages between the last hours of December 31 and on January 1.

The second largest mobile phones operator in the country, Globul, announced that its subscribers had sent 4,3 million messages, with 3,3 million being sent on January 1.

Globul has registered 18% growth in the number of text messages sent on New Year's Eve, compared to last year. Mtel has not announced what is the change on an annual basis in the number of sent text messages.

The two telecoms represent about 85% of the phone services market in Bulgaria.

Globul has also announced that talks within its network on New Year's Eve registered a 21% growth and the data traffic increased by 170%. compared to last year.
