Inside Bulgaria's Easter Celebrations: Traditions Passed Through Generations
Today marks the joyous celebration of Easter, one of the most significant holidays in the Orthodox Christian calendar.
A 20% increase of travels between Bulgaria and Greece has been registered during this year’s holidays by the Border Police.
About 20,000 more people have crossed the border checkpoint between the two countries, in comparison to last year.
The 20% increase is a result of the people who crossed the border from Greece to Bulgaria and of the new border checkpoints at the Bulgarian towns of Zlatograd and Svilengrad.
A smaller increase has been registered at the Ilinden-Exochi checkpoint and at Kulata, according to the Bulgarian News Agency.
Greeks are expected to make the biggest portion of tourists in the Bulgarian winter resort Bansko and in the tourist town of Sandanski.
More tourists from Greece are also expected in the Rhodopi Mountains because of the border checkpoint at Zlatograd.
Hotel managers from the Pamporovo resort have announced there has already been a serious interest by Greek tourists and it is very likely that the resort registers a 20% growth this season.
According to statistics, about 50-70,000 Greeks visit Bulgaria every month. However, business trip is the reason for at least half of them.
