The Bulgarian capital Sofia is preparing to host its first ever independent film fest named So!Independent with hit movies from the Sundance and Tribeca.
The motion pictures, including those of Martin Scorsese, Clint Eastwood, and brothers Ethan and Joel Cohen, will be shown from November 5 to 11 in the Cineplex, Film House, and Lumiere movie theaters.
The program includes nominated and award-winning movies, low-budget and short films.
Brothers Cohen will be presented by their last film – "A Serious Man," a 2009 black comedy film, written, produced, and directed by them. The movie has a Golden Globe nomination for the leading male actor, Michael Stuhlbarg, a place on both the American Film Institute's and National Board of Review's Top 10 Film Lists of 2009, and a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Picture.
The Sofia audiences will be able the see Scorsese's "A Personal Journey with Martin Scorsese Through American Movies" and Eastwood's "Piano Blues," where he explores his life-long passion for piano blues, using rare historical footage in addition to interviews and performances by such living legends as Pinetop Perkins and Jay McShann.
The program also features "The Hurt Locker," directed by Kathryn Bigelow, winner of six Oscars, including the one for Best Director, making Bigelow the first woman to receive the award in the 81-year-long history of ceremony.
The opening movie will be "Leaves of Grass," Directed by Tim Blake Nelson with Edward Norton playing a double part as two twin brothers.
