SOCIALIST LEADER PREDICTS SERIOUS SOCIAL PROBLEMS THIS AUTUMN

The leader of the Bulgarian Socialist Party Sergey Stanishev said that considering that there was a lack of active social policy on behalf of the rulers, a serious social “tremor” can be expected this autumn. He met with Konstantin Trenchev, leader of one of the two biggest trade unions in Bulgaria “Podkrepa”. Trenchev said that the trade union he leads was against the privatisation of Maritsa – East mines, State Savings Bank and other to-be-privatized enterprises. Both officials expressed concerns that the privatisation process might continue, without being made public, with lack of clear priorities and general market strategy. The leaders of Podkrepa trade union and the leftist party also declared that they were for urgent changes in the government.
