Shumen Declares Non-School Days Due to Severe Winter Weather
Due to the ongoing extreme weather conditions, the mayor of the Bulgarian city of Shumen has declared Thursday and Friday
Minister of Agriculture and Foods Miroslav Naydenov opened Saturday the new hunting season near the city of Shuman in Northeastern Bulgaria.
Naydenov “declared a war” on poachers claiming to increase both the number of forestry rangers and to put forth harsher sanctions.
The minister said he had been a hunter for 10 years, and explained he liked hunting wild pigs because this kind of hunt was “more emotional.” On Saturday, however, the squad that he went out with, including Emil Dimitrov, a MP from the ruling party GERB, shot down several quails.
“I got two bosses now. One is Prime Minister Borisov and the other is the head of my hunting squad,” Naydenov joked.
"I personally have reservations with respect to the data submitted at present. I think that the population of brown bears in Bulgaria is higher," he stated with respect to the issue with killer bears in the Rhodope Mountains.
About 3 000 hunting squads around Bulgaria marked the opening of the hunting season.
