Bulgarian PM Boyko Borisov declared Wednesday that he is tackling an enigmatic misdeed committed by his predecessor Sergey Stanishev in France.

Speaking after the Bulgarian cabinet's last sitting before summer recession, Borisov left Bulgarians with food for thought during August, saying he won't divulge on details since the matter is classified.

The Bulgarian PM nevertheless revealed that the issue had to do with intelligence services, as well as that he gave BGN 2 M from Bulgaria's fiscal reserve to the National Intelligence Service to settle it.

He qualified what had been done by ex-PM Stanishev as a “mischief” and an “outrage.” He moreover exposed Stanishev's extraordinary perfidy, saying that the latter's tactics include involving the present cabinet in investigating actions of his that can lead to the accidental disclosing of classified information on the part of the new cabinet.

He was referring to an ongoing prosecution investigation against Bulgarian Minister of Finance Simeon Djankov for publicly revealing where Bulgaria's fiscal reserve is deposited.

Wednesday Borisov did not make clear how exactly France was involved in the mystery.

In a similar occasion last fall Borisov and Stanishev exchanged accusations concerning responsibility for a speculated BGN 2 M ransom allegedly paid by Bulgaria to Somali pirates for the release of the Malaspina Castle ship with 16 Bulgarian sailors on board.
