Bulgarian Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov has declared that he is not afraid of plots against his life.
Tsvetanov commented on the media reports from Sunday that the arrested organized crime group named “Killers” was plotting the assassination of Prime Minister Boyko Borisov. Speaking Sunday night on TV Borisov said he is used to watching out for himself but that he was more worried about the Interior Minister.
“There is no man who is not afraid but everybody must decide in advance if they can handle the kind of thing that we have taken up. So I am not afraid,” Tsvetanov told bTV Monday.
He expressed confidence in the teams of the National Protection Service which guards the country's top leaders.
“This is not so important about our society. What's important is that we are going into the right direction against hardcore organized crime. We are not changing the approach in our work, and we are still as excited as at the beginning,” claims the Interior Minister.
In his words, the Killers group is responsible for several assassinations around the country, and it did not matter if the victims were high-profile or not but the investigation is still going on, including the investigation of the murder to controversial football club president Yuriy Galev in June.
“We are constantly staging special operations. We have detained several customs agents and border policemen. We have just captured several men dealing with vignette fraud. We have got to change the face of this country,” said Tsvetanov.
He also commented on the disproportionately high criminal rate among the Bulgarian Roma by saying that the state must invest in the education of the Roma minority because there was no way the Interior Ministry alone could handle the high number of crimes that its members commit without the respective social policies.
