Bulgaria's ruling center-right Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB) party is committed to pass in months a new Public Tenders Act.

The GERB Member of the Parliament, Emil Radev, said Wednesday the Act must be replaced entirely because its foundation is wrong, and none of the amendments can prevent all possibilities for violations, adding the Public Tenders Agency is now analyzing the issues and in about 6 months the new Act could be prepared.

Radev's words come on the heels of the Tuesday publication of the European Commission's report on Bulgaria's progress in justice and home affairs through the so-called Co-operation and Verification Mechanism (CVM), paying special attention to the public tenders which remain largely threatened by conflict of interests.

As soon as he learned about the report's recommendations, Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, declared Bulgaria will have a new Public Tenders Act in 3 months.

Radev reminded on Wednesday that some of the EC recommendations were already included in amendments of the current Public Tenders Act, which became effective July 13.
