UDF TO VOTE `AGAINST` THE CABINET OF SIMEON

Politics | July 23, 2001, Monday // 00:00

The United Democratic Forces decided to vote `against` the cabinet of Simeon Saxe-Coburg on its session on Monday. `Simeon restored the presence of the Bulgarian Socialists Party in the government without having any political reason, and in that way changed the electorate`s vote. On Tuesday the National Assembly will cast a vote on a government of the Simeon II National Movement, the Bulgarian Socialists Party, and of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms, which does not correspond to the received vote. The Socialists were granted the right to control key spheres of the executive power without being politically responsible`, says a declaration of the Parliamentary group of the UDF. According to members of the Union the electorate had already understood that the formal leading of negotiations was a result of the preliminary agreements with Georgi Parvanov (BSP leader) and Ahmed Dogan (MRF leader). It was also clear that through the idea of forming a broad coalition, the UDF has been pushed to become an accessory to the act of ruining the Bulgarian multi-party democracy by accepting to participate in a government with no political principles. `The members of the new government, the promises made by Simeon Saxe-Coburg, and the pre-election programs of the BSP and MRF prove that it will execute a reforming rightist-centrist program, it will not guarantee the so needed continuity in the former policy and, last but not least, it will delay the development of Bulgarian in the right direction`, says the declaration of the UDF.
