Bulgaria’s Chief Prosecutor, Boris Velchev, gave Saturday high marks to Interior Minister, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, ranking him as the best from the three he has worked with.

Velchev said in an interview for the TV channel bTV that the current Interior Minister is the best and he is easy to work with due to the latter’s police background. The Prosecutor explained he sees Tsvetanov strong criticism towards the judicial system as normal and typical for democratic countries.

When asked if Bulgaria might be indeed turning into a police State as many now say, including the prestigious “Economist” magazine, the Prosecutor replied: “When one works with criminals, one cannot apply the rules of the Culture Ministry.”

Velchev also touched on the project to establish a special "mafia tribunal" in Bulgaria to deal with top criminals, saying the bill for such institution is still pending, but voiced his support for the idea, saying this court will have fewer cases, and magistrates, who will be experts in he fight against organized crime, would not be overwhelmed by the now common huge work load.

Velchev appealed to magistrates, involved in the recent real estate scandal in the beach town of Primiorsko, where their relatives received building rights after claiming to be on welfare, to resign as the only dignified solution of the problem.
