Musicians’ Strike Halts Performances at Bulgarian National Radio
Musicians from the Bulgarian National Radio (BNR) have suspended all concert activities starting Friday, protesting what they describe as insufficient salaries.

Bulgaria’s Council for Electronic Media (CEM) reelected Friday Valeri Todorov at the post of Director of the Bulgarian National Radio, BNR.
Todorov’s first term expires Saturday, but he has the right to serve a second one.
The vote was public and open and the BNR Director was supported by 8 CEM members.
There were 8 other candidates, including former BNR Director, Polya Stancheva (currently municipal councilwoman from the ruling Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB) party).
Valeri Todorov has graduated with a Degree in Journalism from the University of Sofia and in 1981 began his first job with the “Horizont” (Horizon) program of BNR.
He had been for many years the BNR correspondent in Moscow. In 2006, Todorov was bestowed the highest award for foreign reporter by the Russian Media Union.
Before being elected Director General of BNR in May, 2007, he served as Director of the “Radio Broadcasting” Department of the radio and as Director of Radio Blagoevgrad.
