In March 2010, Bulgaria's industrial production is up 1.7% year on year, data published Monday by the National Statistics Institute (NSI) shows.
This is the first increase (1.7%) of the index since September 2009, when the increase was 2.7%. (In October 2009, the industrial index slumped 16.1% year on year, in November – 10.8%, December - 12.1%, January – 0.9% and February – 9.1%.
In the manufacturing industry the production is up 6.3%; mining is up nearly 5% while production and distribution of electric power is down nearly 10%.
The production of energy products registers a 9% decrease, the one of products for intermediate consumption is up 5.5%; and investment products are up 17.5%.
Compared to February 2010, in March industrial production is up 21%, with a 3% decrease in the production and distribution of electric power, 35% increase in the manufacturing industry and an increase of 7% in the mining industry.
NSI registers an increase of nearly 100% in the production of tobacco products, 67% - in the production of beverages, 38% in the production of chemicals. From all sectors of the manufacturing industry, only the production of shoes and the processing of leather are down 11%.
