The Commission for Consumer Protection has warned Monday against frauds with the sale of Dutch sudoku books and holiday offers in Cyprus.

The Commissionn has received information that a Netherlands-based “Sudoku Sun” company, owned by the Swiss “Bonito” company deals with the sale of Sudoku books.

Representatives of the company are reported to have called consumers inquiring if they were willing to receive a copy of a sudoku puzzle book.

Consumers were then told that they must pay only the delivery fee of EUR 4.95 and that all payments were made with a bank card.

Upon delivery of the book, consumers were also handed a letter saying that they had made a subscription for EUR 19.95 a month and that they could unsubscribe within a 14-day period.

However, according to an inspection by the Commission, customers, willing to unsubscribe, had been unable to reach the company's representatives by phone.

The other fraud signal that the Commission has received is for consumer-related crimes by the American company "World Ventures Marketing, LCC".

Representatives of the company have coaxed consumers into paying a registration fee of EUR 265 and a monthly feel of EUR 40 until consumers manage to attract four more people to register on the site of the company. Consumers are told that upon registration, they'll be eligible for holiday discounts in Cyprus and if they manage to make six more people register in the system they'll start receiving monthly payments by the company.
