The Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) will organize a protest demonstration on May 1 – International Labor Movement Day.

The socialist demonstration will go under the motto “Against the Crisis! All United for Labor and Democracy!”

Demonstrators, including BSP leaders, members and supporters of Bulgaria's left-wingers, are set to gather at the National Assembly square on Saturday and protest against the anti-crisis policy of the GERB center-right ruling party.

Bulgaria's socialist leader and ex Prime Minister Sergey Stanishev will address the crowds.

Demonstrators will later head for the open-air stage in Sofia's central park “Borisova Gradina” to celebrate the official holiday of the Bulgarian “Duma” newspaper (the print tribune of the leftist movement in Bulgaria) and the print press of left-wingers.

Socialists were recently outraged at the refusal of the two state-owned media – the Bulgarian National Television and the Bulgarian National Radio – to run their May 1 promotional clip.

BSP accused the two media in turning down their commercial because of political reasons. Socialists claimed that their audio-video clip, announcing the protest meeting on 1st May, has not been released by any of the national broadcasters because BSP has firmly opposed the anti-crisis policy of the center-right GERB government.

In response, the Bulgarian National Radio (BNR) sent a letter to BSP, saying that the clip was not played because it does not correspond to the requirements for a commercial media message.

Bulgarian National Television (BNT), on the other hand, refused to run the video because it includes shots of police operations that are subject to copyright.
