The Greek border police did not allow on Greek territory Monday the delegation of the Bulgarian National Business Association and Bulgarian reporters.
The delegation was slated to negotiate with the protesting Greek farmers, who for the 3 weeks in a row now are blocking with tractors the Kulata- Promahon border cross point between Bulgaria and Greece.
Earlier Monday, the Association planned to block the cross point themselves, but after talks with the Governor of the southern Blagoevgrad region, Valeri Smilenov and the Director of the Regional Police Directorate, Konstantin Tityanov, who said they will not issue a permit for the blockade, the Association rescinded their intentions.
The Association’s Chair, Svetlozar Nikolov, explained that if Bulgaria undertakes such counteractions, they could impede the right to request compensations from the EU for the losses endured from the Greek farmers’ blockade.
The delegation is surrounded by increased police presence and police patrols on all intersections between the city of Blagoevgrad and the Kulata border cross point, the Bulgarian National Radio, BNR, reports.
BNR further informs the tractors at the border are empty while the farmers are keeping from the cold in local coffee shops, bars, restaurants and casinos.
