North East Bulgaria is feeling the brunt of the freezing weather that is sweeping the country with -22 degrees centigrade measured overnight in Glavnitsa near Silistra.

The cold front, which is set to hover over Bulgaria well into next week, will see temperatures continue to fall on Saturday and Sunday with weather forecasters predicting a maximum daytime temperature of -10 oC in some areas on Sunday.

Roads are currently shut to traffic in the municipalities of Kavarna and Shabla on the Black Sea coast due to the heavy snowfall that has now ceased and extremely icy conditions.

The whole of the country is seeing daytime temperatures of between -3 and -10 oC Friday with towns across the North of the country worst affected, however the road system, electricity and water supplies across the region are generally said to be working efficiently.
