Bulgaria's police and prosecutors are to decide on Wednesday whether to keep in detention for 72 hours three top crime bosses, who were detained over the murder of prominent crime journalist Bobi Tsankov the previous day.
Bulgaria’s Interior Ministry special task team arrested top crime bosses Krasimir Marinov and Nikolay Marinov, aka the Marguin Brothers late on Tuesday. Stefan Bonev, aka “Sako”, who in November 2009 chased Bobi Tsankov by car in Sofia issuing death threats against him, was also detained.
Sako is known as a drug boss in Sofia, while the Marguin Brothers are publicly believed to be among the most powerful bosses of the obsolete ex-grouping SIC - the major rival of the VIS organized crime group from the 1990s.
The three were taken to the GDBOP (Unit for Combating Organized Crime) for interrogation over the murder of Bobi Tsankov, a controversial radio host who was shot dead in Sofia at noon on Tuesday.
Earlier Tuesday night, in a special operation, the police searched the central office of the Bul Ins insurance company in the Lozenets Quarter, and the Tsarsko Selo hotel complex in the Simeonovo Quarter, which are both owned by the Marguin Brothers.
