The Bulgarian state has levied distraints on all bank accounts and assets known to be connected with the high profiled kidnappers’ gang which was busted in the “Impudent” special operation in December 2009.

The millions of EUR that the kidnappers have received from ransom in at least 12 abduction cases have been invested in homes, villas, limos, and lovers, according to the Standart Daily.

One of the major distrained assets is a luxury boutique in downtown Sofia, which has been bought by three of the leaders of the kidnappers – Ivaylo Evtimov, aka Yozhi; Anton Petrov, aka the Hamster, and Prokopi Prokopiev, aka the Bodybuilder. The gangsters intended to launder much of the money they got from the kidnappings through the luxury boutique.

The assets of the organized crime group are currently handled by special teams of prosecutors, tax inspectors, and members of the Parliamentary Committee dealing with expropriating property acquired through criminal activity.

The state institutions are aiming at restoring the money the victims’ relatives paid as ransoms but this would become possible only after court rulings.
